Can I tell you a secret?

I love being a therapist, but I don’t love the traditional therapy model.

In school, mental health professionals are taught that sitting on a couch with good listening and reflecting skills once every week is the way to enlightenment (thanks, Freud).

Then we get into the real world and we’re told those sessions are to be 50 minutes and maybe can only happen every other week (thanks, insurance companies).

Over the years, I have gotten so frustrated on behalf of my clients when schedules don’t work or coverage isn’t there to ensure continuity of healing for them. Sometimes, 50 minutes in session passes before it feels like we’ve gotten to all (or any) that we need to address.

We sometimes feel yuck because of wounds we may not see and those wounds make us repeat patterns that aren’t good for us, or feel bad even when things are good. They keep us stuck or frustrated-able to see the solution but not do the solution.

Throughout my career, I have continuously sought out ways to help people get unstuck; to move through the rough stuff into healing so they can fully live lives that feel more comfortable, easier and fun.

I have trained in a variety of awesome therapeutic interventions that include both mind and body healing. I’ve studied nutrition, mindful meditation, EMDR, safe and sound music protocols, therapeutic yoga and somatic therapy.

You know what? In spite of years of gathering knowledge and practicing skills, there often isn’t time in regular sessions to utilize much or any of it in a way that would be most helpful to my clients.

I used to try to do more by leading group healing retreats. They were a glorious time where women could come together and learn/use the tools in a warm, safe environment. Then pandemic life crushed in-person retreats for a few years and now I am itching to get back to the in-person, in-depth work that happens when you have extended time together.

Now, instead of leading groups, I am excited to curate that same retreat experience for each person who comes in. Think of Therapy Intensives as your own personal healing retreat.

Not only will there be dedicated time for yourself, but the time will be spent with a therapist who has curated with and for you the optimal way to use that time to ensure you feel better not just when you leave the office, but when you step back into your life as well.

Isn’t that something to pursue?
